Pretoria resident, Tenille Dinkelmann first started Fancy Schmancy in December 2019 after her sister surprised her with a rather unique gift from France.
“When my sister came home after a vacation in France, she brought me back these balls filled with fruit juice (it was Litchi flavour, I still remember it so clearly). I mean…. how COOL is that! These balls are filled with a liquid and they pop if you eat them (I am pretty sure I almost finished the whole jar that day),” Tenille says.
The teacher from Centurion was fascinated and said she simply had to know more. Tenille knew then and there that she had to try and make her own – and Fancy Schmancy was born.
After extensive research, Tenille found that making her own pearls might be easier said than done. Nevertheless, and not wanting to do the same type of ‘filing’ as is already readily available, she started experimenting with carrot juice. It did not go so well, but fingers crossed, she is still planning to debut her carrot pearls.
Her filling of choice? Balsamic Vinegar (black and white) – her Black Balsamic Vinegar pearls are her best sellers. And oh boy, are these Fancy Schmancy pearls as gorgeous on a plate as they are in your mouth.
All Tenille’s products are handmade and the Balsamic liquid used to fill the pearls are all imported from Modena, Italy.
Also keep a lookout for her brand new flavours – strawberry, blueberry and granadilla that will be available soon.
